Lightning Protection for Commercial and Industrial Applications
Commercial buildings and large facilities are even more vulnerable as literally thousands of computers, phones and other electronic equipment may be at risk of catastrophic failure.

Schools, hospitals, airports, factories, chemical plants, power generating plants and office buildings are just some of the facilities choosing to play it safe against destructive forces of lightning by installing lightning protection systems.
A properly installed lightning protection system safe-guards a business structurally and also protects property, inventory, electronic equipment and personnel from the destructive forces of lightning.
Like fires alarms, sprinklers and security systems, a lightning protection system provides the peace of mind that comes from knowing that a potentially catastrophic problem has been dealt with proactively.

Compliance Counts
Nationally recognized safety standards for lightning protection system design and installation are maintained by the National Fire Protection Association and Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. These standards are designed to help ensure safe, effective protection from lightning.
The relevant standards that govern lightning protection systems and equipment are:
- Underwriters Laboratories UL96 Lightning Protection Components
- UL96A Installation Requirements for Lightning Protection Systems
- National Fire Protection Association NFPA 780 Standard for the Installation of Lightning Protection Systems.
- Lightning Protection Institute LPI175 Standard of Practice
Lightning Protection System specifications should call for experienced lightning protection specialists to perform the installation work. In addition to compliance with the above standards, the specifications should require the lightning protection installation contractor to provide UL Master Label Inspection Certification for the project. This third party compliance inspection by Underwriters Laboratories ensures that the materials and installation comply with national safety standards for lightning protection.
